I'm going on Saturday night to see Richard Dawkins speak at PSU. I've read one of his books twice, and he is one of the few people out there that seems to be saying something important and revolutionary regarding science, religion, and sociology.
Seriously, it's FREE but it's going to sell out. I'm going to be at PSU at 5pm on Saturday. It's in the Stott Center Gym. text me if you want to meet up. After this lecture you'll feel totally mentally stimulated and will probably leave with a completely different view of religion and athiesim. Or you'll just have a lot to talk about for the next couple days/rest of your life.
Oh, and, if you dont' have my number, I'm probably not inviting you to come along.
In other news, I made fig and plum oatmeal cookies from figs and plumbs I picked around the neighborhood. Yum!

...when she said we felt like children or animals or natives.
Yesterday was a long waited superfun adventure. A perfect day, a great way to end the summer. A woodland excursion hike that ended in Thai food, with bears, shuttles, and trains.
In other news, I got some more photos developed. Remind me and I'll post them.

Hey, we haven't played a Portland show in AGES, but we're playing one this month. We aren't playing very often in town anymore because 1) We are very busy people; and 2) We want to make every show we DO play really really good.
So come on out to the last Last Thursday of the summer.

Back from touring. Total success. No breakdowns or canceled shows, nothing was lost or stolen or forgotten. Nothing too dramatic happened. Had time to read and time to party. Time to be awesome and time to be humbled. Blew some people away with manners and musical ability. Met awesome people. Made friends and memories. Took video (coming soon) and photographs-the film kind (also coming soon).
Wrote words, laughed, geeked out on Canadian things. Made people happy. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.
Hello again Portland. If I ever move out of this city it will be to Vancouver, BC.
Oh yeah, watch this. It's the awesome local designer jacket line I've done some modeling for. My friend Ben shot and edited the video, he does amazing work.

Pretty please, if you happen to be in a city listed on the date of our show, COME!!!!

That's all for the moment. Cheers.

I just finished the 60's schwinn 3 speed for Hannah. It's awesome. (Yesterday I finished a bike for my brother, an aluminum frame mtn-converted-roadbike. It's such a great feeling to finish something you worked hard to do, learned a lot from, and are proud of, and then give it to someone important to you because they'll get good use out of it. That's what I've done with these two bikes. Next bike project is what? I dunnooooooo.........
Going on tour with Monster-Sized Monsters in 2 weeks! WOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
There are two shows, volleyball, and a movie event all happening TONIGHT I have to choose from. Actually, I made plans for the movie before I found out about any of these other things so my decision is made for me.
did i tell you about my 50 mile bike ride a 1.5 weeks ago and my 60 mile ride 6 days after that? IT WAS AWESOME! Biked to water places both days to swim. It was a million degrees out so it was so niiiiice
Now the weather is milder and I've been drinking tea. Clouds make me drink tea.
The tomatoes in my garden are doing AWESOME! (Unlike last year when they did horribly!) We've had many Early Girls, some Bloody Butchers, a Brandywine, and today our first Roma.
I'm going to go for a quick 2 mile run, then if I have time I'm going to pick some figs from a huge fig tree (the owners wont mind there's thousands of figs on that tree), then head over to Ben's house for movie/ice cream party.
OH YEAH! I almost forgot! I've got some extra money from doing the Levi's commercial, and I wanted to buy another guitar... Almost bought an Epiphone Wilshire. BUT THEN I decided to look into building my own guitar, and I bought a kit to build a telecaster! I'M SO EXCITED!! It'll be awesome. I've been building things all summer. (Well.. bikes anyway...)
BYEEEEEEEE internet, see you later.

I totally support this crazy simple (in concept and technology) but genius plan to counteract climate change. Not only will it help with heat, but it would make the road at night more visible, detour crime, provide jobs, and be really awesome. It might take a while, but I'm sure eventually some proposals will spring up about starting this process, and they should be supported! Of course it's going to cost money, but money is less important than the earth. Duh. http://www.content.good.is/post/fighting-global-warming-with-pavement.html

Here's the Levi's ad I'm in.. one great second @ about 0:15. Longer cut to be shown in theaters supposedly.
Also, shot for La Merde yesterday. Fun fun, good people, awesome jackets. Mosquitoes = NOT AWESOME.
Tour booking takes forever. Ughhhhhhhhhhh........

Cheers to good, friendly people, who don't act like they want anything from me, who are interesting and live life to the fullest, who keep their word, and don't entangle themselves in unnecessary drama.
And any imperfect combination of the traits above.
Thank you for being in my life.

Yesterday... America day....
Went to the Sandy River with 35+ other people, most of whom I did not know, but who were all easy to get along with/not dumb/not assholes/not drunk/not boring. We had tons of rafts, and floated down the river whilst shooting eachother with water guns. We swam, it was so warm out the water was great. We just had a lot of simple fun, the best kind. We decided our floating group's name was Manifest Destiny's Child....
Then went to work while everyone else BBQ'd. Was kept longer than I wanted because they let nearly everyone go home. After work, I ended up back with the large group of people, who went to this weird rooftop private party, perfect for watching fireworks, complete with DJ.
Hannah, I'm sorry I couldn't make it to your work, but I didn't have my bike, and even if I did, by the time I could have gotten there, the fireworks would have been over, and you would have been so busy anyway, it would have been a mess.
Besides the unavoidable but still awful feeling of disappointing my best friend, that was a goddamn great Independence day.

Got my violin back from the repair guy's house, it needed a NEW soundpost. It sounds so good! I wish I knew how to play it. That's what the Internet's for I guess... to learn more things...
Made jam (and canned it) with (some of the) strawberries from my backyard and some miniature oranges from my parent's house.
Went to the bank.
Bad news from my mom's doctor.
Been workin' on bikes for a few hours now tonight... need to get a tiny little part tomorrow. It's a learning process (a theme perhaps?) so things go slow. I've made 247098754 mistakes then had to fix them, but I learn just as much from the mistakes.
Found something I thought was long lost!
Ah... sucked into violin stuff.........

I learned where the saying "Mad as a hatter" came from. Back in the "olden days" when beavers were hunted for their pelts to be made into hats, the hatmakers would only use the soft fir under the brown long coat on the beaver. They would pull out all the long hairs by hand, but when it got to the point where there was not a lot of long hairs left, they could no longer see them well enough to find them. So they'd take mercury, and with their bare hands rub it over the fir. This caused the long hairs to turn orange, and made the rest of the job easy. And since we NOW know that sticking your hand in mercury will give you crazy brain damage, these poor guys went mad.
Thus, "mad as a hatter."
(Also, I just [coincidentally] finished reading Diary by Chuck P., so the theme is on the surface of my mind.)
Anyway....
Yesterday was good. It was:
+Bike jousting +Bike riding +Good stories with good company -Work... (But thanks for tipping well, world. Maybe we truly are coming out of the recession) +Co-worker's show. They were good (although not really my style) and the last band was amazing. (keyboard, trumpet, saw, guitar, banjo, drums, upright bass, great vocals, 3 gals, 2 guys.) If I could remember what they're called, I'd drop their name... I'll remember at some point.
Today is good. A nice father's day. I made a really great (I think) gift for my dad, and we went to the Sunday bike in the parkway thing. It was pleasant. Then had homemade strawberry/rhubarb pie.
Off to work!
Oh, and, is anyone going to see Cursive @ the Wonder this Wednesday?
